T O P I C R E V I E WspaceukFor UK TV viewers The Dish is on this afternoon (Saturday 11 Dec) at 4:10pm on CH4.I believe the film Apollo-13 is being run again over Christmas sometime.icarkiePhillApollo 13 is on the 28th, 12:55pm ITV.and for anyone from the Darker side, Star Wars Episode IV is on the 29th /Episode V on the 30th / and Episode VI on the 31st all on ITV.May the force be with youIan spaceman48263"The Dish" has to be one of my favorite space movies. I have it on DVD and have watched it many times. To bad the DVD didn't come with many extras. Best part was when the band plays theme from Hawaii five-O as the national anthem! I think I'll have to watch it tonight!Merry Christmas to all you "Space Nuts"november25THE DISH- Has to be a favourite of mine-love the bit where Gordo is talking to the aboriginal-when they arrive in Oz-and then the great moment-when the Astronaut sees-what he thinks are shooting stars in the sky---beautiful-itys amazing----------i got my copy in the USA-Hope to find some more goodies whilst there after Christmas.Regards to you all,Happy Christmas everyonefrom Brenda and Family on the Isle of Man.this was posted by november25ColinBurgessHi Brenda,Uh oh ... too much of that splendid Aussie wine for you. Those scenes you mention were actually in the movie, "The Right Stuff." "The Dish" is a delightful film about a small group of engineers working at the Parkes radio telescope during the Apollo 11 mission. It is an absolute scream, and really takes you back to those wonderful days. Colinnovember25Hi Colin,I HAVE BEEN ON THE BOOZE TONIGHT, Aussie Red.Your right- got so many space DVDs get mixed up.thanks for pointing my error out-looking forward to my Florida vacation and to see Story-must go to Disney to see the fireworks, for the new year, all the very best to you, have a lovely Christmas. Ted has distant relatives in oz-so maybe one day? If we can go the 28 hour flight.?Happy Christmas, all the best for 2005regards from Brenda.spaceukI'd never seen The Dish until yesterday .And - even then - missed first half since my wife 'forgot' to call me to say it was on. Never mind it was good fun . I liked the bit where they climb onto the dish itself and sit!And where the lady is reciting poems to the assembled dignitaries in front of the tv set when the live images of Neil's first steps onto Moon start appearing - and she wouldn't move without being bundled out of the way :-)PhillTRSThe Australian/New Zealand release of The Dish has absolutely fantastic special features on it - everything form original newsreels of construction of the telescope to a section called "The Bits we liked but couldn;t use" which is all of the footage, documentaries etc that the filmmakers gathered but couldn't fit in - like interviews with the women who made the suits used for the EVA. If you've got a multizone, I'd highly recommend getting this version for the special features alone!CHeersCraig from Aucklandspaceman48263To bad you can't find that in the states! Sounds like it would be worth viewing. Maybe it will be reissued here with those extras someday.eiliskHi allIt can be ordered from Australia, for those with Region 4 compatible players. http://www.sanity.com.au/product.asp?intProductID=56233&intArtistID=11401 http://www.fbo.com.au/movie.asp?ID=4706 and if you don't have region-free players, I can recommend for PCs Region-Free DVD from DVDIdle (http://www.dvdidle.com/) No more flashing of DVD drives! (-:All the bestEilis[This message has been edited by eilisk (edited December 17, 2004).]Cliff LentzI love this film. The opening credit Montage of space events leading up to Apollo 11 is a feast for any Space Nut. Who among us can avoid blurting out the names of the astronauts or the flights as it goes on? I particularly liked the son of the Mayor of Parkes who was probably like all of us; fascinated by all this, knowing all the little details in a world that has a hard time grasping the just the basics of the Moonlanding. During one of my five minute radio NASA updates that I do on Sportsradio 610 in Philadelphia about a year ago, they played a sound byte from the movie as I was talking. It was the one where one of the techs says " I like that Cliff he always goes for it!" november25Hi All-Well- its done- I ordered the AUSSIE VERSION OF THE DISH TONIGHT,after trying on several occasions-if at first-you dont succeed-so try again Brenda- it payed off-after joining SANITY-think mine nearly went.At last-so am looking forward to this version=-Colin- should be a hoot? for the price OF $35.42 for the DVD and $7.85 Delivery to the UK.Even got a confirmation to prove it-I printed off- So Austrailiahere goes? Thanks friends, Happy Christmas.ps Will let you know what adventures in Did in Florida- at KSCthis was posted by november25goodnight.eiliskGood stuff Brenda!Let us know when it arrives and how good the extras are.All the bestEilisTRSHi againsorry I've been away fromt he computer for a little bit and missed the ordering info conversation.
